(listening to: Modest Mouse: Good News For People Who Love Bad News)

So, I've had a few days now to soak up the new Modest Mouse record, and I'm generally happy with it. It is very front-loaded, I think the first six songs are amazing, and the rest is, well, subpar, but generally enjoyable. My favorite so far is "The Ocean Breathes Salty," with the single "Float On" and the probable second single "Bury Me With It" a close second. Watch them perform "Bury Me With It" live on Carson Daily here (link via the catbirdseat). I'm also really into both "The World At Large" and the dancey "The View," so I guess that means just about half the record I think is utterly amazing.

Of the remaining songs, "Dance Hall" sounds like a drunk Isaac spouting off at a couple shows I've seen, running around the audience and rolling around on the floor. Some of the songs sound like Ugly Casanova projects, mainly "Blame It On The Tetons," "Bukowski," and the horn-chorus heavy "The Devil's Work Day" (which you can hear clips from on the splash page for the modestmouse.com site. Now that I know I like it, I just have to wait for it to be released!

Today is mini-mix day. We got a new scanner/printer here at the home office, so I'm gonna scan some photos and put a little something up later today. I've actually got two ideas fighting each other for mini-mix styles today, so I might have to post one next week as well!
